Dr Blackman is a consultant forensic psychiatrist who has worked in a variety of clinical settings and has experience of completing a diverse range of expert reports. She completed both core psychiatric training and higher specialist training in forensic psychiatry at the Maudsley Training scheme in South London. She has experience of working across all levels of security, including community services and low, medium and high security inpatient units. This has included a specialist female service in Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust between 2016 and 2017, and a specialist acute personality disorder service at Broadmoor high secure hospital, meaning that Dr Blackman is comfortable working with a wide range of clinical scenarios.

Since August 2020 Dr Blackman has been employed by Surrey and Borders Partnership NHS Trust as a consultant forensic psychiatrist in the forensic outreach and liaison service (FOLS).

Dr Blackman completed the Gray’s Inn Expert Witness Course in 2019.

Experience of giving evidence

Dr Blackman has experience of providing expert reports in criminal, civil and immigration matters. She is comfortable giving oral evidence in court. In her clinical practice, Dr Blackman is familiar with giving evidence before the Health, Education and Social Care Chamber of the First-tier tribunal for mental health. As a forensic psychiatrist she regularly gives an opinion regarding the suitability of hospital orders under the Mental Health Act 1983, as amended in 2007.
