Dr Syed is an experienced Consultant Older Adult Psychiatrist. As part of his core training, he gained experience in various psychiatric sub-specialities including general adult psychiatry, learning disability psychiatry, forensic psychiatry and rehabilitation psychiatry. He worked as a middle grade doctor in a crisis resolution and home treatment team for adults before taking up higher training in the Charing Cross higher training scheme. He has specialist experience in assessing people with memory problems irrespective of age group. He regularly manages patients presenting with behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia.

He sees patients with functional mental health disorders in his practice including Depression, Anxiety disorders, Obsessive Compulsive disorder, Functional Cognitive disorders, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Schizophrenia, and Bipolar Affective disorder. He is approved under Section 12(2) of the Mental health Act 1983(as amended in 2007) as having special expertise in the diagnosis and management of mental disorders.

Apart from providing clinical leadership as a consultant, Dr Syed holds management roles such as medical lead for older people’s mental health services and older people’s psychiatric liaison services in his Trust. He is the chair of the Medical Staffing Committee and was elected as an executive committee member of the Old Age Faculty at the Royal College of Psychiatrists. Dr Syed has a keen interest in teaching and training. He is an educational supervisor for psychiatric trainees and a clinical supervisor for GP trainees.

He is also a medical appraiser. Dr Syed is fluent in four languages including English, Hindi, Urdu and Kannada. Dr Syed has received a clinical excellence award for his services to the NHS. He has been instructed in several civil and criminal cases as an expert witness.

Dr Syed is happy to do online and face to face assessments. He can see clients in their own homes as well as in care homes. He aims to see clients within 2 weeks of instruction and file report within 14 working days from the assessment.
