Dr Patel is an experienced neurologist and stroke physician, specialising in a range of neurological disorders, especially complex stroke and headaches. After having trained at The National Neurology and Neurosurgery Hospital gaining experience in specialist headache management, Dr Patel has now joined the headache team at St George’s, seeing patients with complex migraine and other headache disorders. I have a weekly clinic dedicated to headache patients.

She also holds the Cardiff University Law School Bond Solon Civil Expert Certificate. She specialises in stroke and headaches, but also leads the acute neurology service and neurology research at St George’s University Hospitals Foundation Trust.

I started medico-legal work in April 2017 and aim the increase the work load and become involved in more complex work. Several of the cases have been resolved outside of court but I am awaiting potential court appearances for a couple of larger cases. I have complete 200-300 reports per year, of which half are full reports requiring case conferences with Counsel. These range from accidents (work related head injuries and road traffic accidents), medical negligence, medical problems in relation to marital affair and so forth.

Experience of giving evidence

She has provided evidence at employment tribunals and coroners’ court.  She has experience in personal injuries and negligence cases, acting mainly for Claimants, with some work with defendants.

Cases undertaken

80% of Dr Patel’s reports consist of medical negligence work, and the rest consisting of personal injuries and family or employment law cases.
