Dr Elinor Sason is a Highly Specialist Counselling Psychologist with over 7 years (including NHS placements during doctorate training) of experience working with children, adults and families in clinical, NHS and private settings. She has worked with people who have complex mental health needs and dual diagnosis including addiction disorders, personality disorders, forensic patients and PTSD. She is qualified to use a wide range of psychometric tests, deliver psychological interventions and clinical leadership in making assessments of mental state and mental health disorders.

She is currently working as a Highly Specialist Psychologist in an Acute Mental Setting for Surrey and Borders NHS Trust. Her role is to provide rapid and high quality psychological assessment, formulation and interventions to adult service users experiencing mental health crisis requiring hospital admission. She is often asked to provide psychological opinion and recommendations for psychological therapy in the community, through signposting and facilitating safer discharge. יer role also involves offering reflective practice groups to staff, supporting their well-being. She also provides consultation and training to non-psychology staff members to support the development of their skills to manage service users who are in an acute mental state. Additionally, she offers supervision to psychology trainees and assistant psychologist and contribute to research seminars.

Dr Sason has provided hundreds of psychological assessments over the years. These are based on psychological testing, clinical interviewing and a thorough review of documentation concerning the case. Research literature may also be reviewed where appropriate to reach a carefully considered objective opinion. She is confident in her communication skills, offering an honest, independent clinical opinion which is evidence based.

Dr Sason provides her expert opinion to the family and criminal courts. She provides expert evidence in immigration and asylum cases (assess mental disorder, risk of relapse and suicide in the context of detention and deportation).  Her work for the criminal courts involve assessment of:

  • Cognitive function which includes neuropsychological assessments of prisoners with trauma and challenges to mental capacity
