Profile

Dr Hothi is a consultant forensic psychiatrist and an experienced expert witness. She is registered with the General Medical Council. She is also a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists. She is approved for the purposes of Section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act 1983, as amended in 2007, and she is included as an Approved Clinician on the AC register.

Experience of giving evidence

Dr Hothi has been providing psychiatric reports as an expert witness since 2015 for both the Crown and Magistrates courts. She has experience of writing reports for the Parole Board, Immigration Hearings and the First-Tier Tribunal Service. She gives oral evidence in court regularly.

Cases undertaken

Dr Hothi has experience of writing reports for a wide range of criminal proceedings to include violent offences, rape and sexual offences including historical sexual offences against minors, terrorism, drug charges, arson and fraud. She frequently addresses matters such as assessment of mental disorder, risk assessment, fitness to plead and capacity to form intent. She often receives instruction regarding automatism, insanity and diminished responsibility. She has offered opinions regarding sentencing both as the treating consultant and for second opinion.

  • Hare’s Psychopathy Checklist (PCL-R), used for identifying psychopathy
  • Structured Assessment of Protective Factors for violence risk (SAPROF), used to identify positive factors
  • The Risk for Sexual Violence Protocol (RSVP); used to formulate sexual risk.
  • International Personality Disorder Examination (IPDE) – used to assess Personality Disorders
  • Diagnostic Interview for ADHD in Adults (DIVA) – to diagnosis Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder

Availability

Dr Hothi dedicates time each week to her medicolegal practice. She is responsive and flexible when arranging assessments and visits. She is prompt in the delivery of her reports and is willing to take on urgent assessments without compromising on quality.
