Mr Titchener is a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon and Clinical Lead for Trauma at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. His clinical practice consists of general and tertiary complex and major trauma, as well as elective shoulder and elbow surgery both arthroscopic (keyhole) and arthroplasty (joint replacement). As a UK Major Trauma Centre consultant he treats complex patients referred from other hospitals, and runs the polytrauma clinic managing the rehabilitation of patients with multi-system injuries. He holds an LLM degree in medical law where his dissertation was on surgical consent in trauma situations. This interest permits him an understanding of the process and issues relevant to instructing parties in his role as an expert witness.

Experience of giving evidence

Mr Titchener has completed training in court appearances through workshops provided by Inspire Medilaw and through his Masters of Laws (LLM) degree. While frequently warned for court, he is fortunate that he is yet to attend. He has extensive experience of preparing joint statements.

Cases undertaken

Mr Titchener is pleased to accept instructions within his area of specialist practice. As a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at a Major Trauma Centre he provides a broad range of trauma assessments from simple isolated limb injuries to multisystem injury cases (polytrauma). He has a particular interest in the long term management of disability arising from major traumatic injury. Mr Titchener is also able to accept instruction for non-traumatic problems of the shoulder and elbow.

Within his specialist field, Mr Titchener provides reports considering causation, condition and prognosis, and breach of duty/medical negligence.

Mr Titchener is an active researcher and is the Principle Investigator for active national research trials. He is the deputy editor for Bone and Joint 360 Journal, a national digest journal ensuring up to date knowledge of the latest research developments in his field.

Mr Titchener has good availability. He is usually able to provide appointments within 2-4 weeks of instruction and return reports within 2-4 weeks of client examination. He consults in Oxford but is able to travel on an individual case basis.
