Mr Kurt Spiteri Cornish is an experienced Cataract and Vitreo-Retinal (VR) Surgeon with both an NHS and Private Practice. He is VR Clinical Lead and Clinical Governance lead for a busy Tertiary NHS centre. To date Mr Cornish has performed in excess of 2500 vitreo-retinal procedures as primary surgeon. He has also trained VR fellows and senior trainees, with excellent feedback. In his current post as a consultant vitreo-retinal surgeon at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital, a tertiary hospital in Sheffield, UK, he has 2-4 surgical lists per week and train fellows and trainees. This is a high volume department with an average of 300 vitreo-retinal operations per year under
Mr Cornish’s care.

Mr Cornish has good experience in complex cases including traumatic cataracts, dense white cataracts, post-vitrectomy eyeshigh myopia, small pupils, post-uveitis, floppy iris syndrome and pseudoexfoliation.

Mr Cornish has taught junior and senior trainees cataract surgery of various degrees of complexity, and in the last few years have managed to guide first year trainees to complete phacoemulsification surgery, and senior trainees in dealing with complex cases and dealing with their complications.


Experience of giving evidence

Mr Cornish has bee trained in cross-examination on his Bond Solon course. He also has experience in GMC Fitness to Practice Tribunal.

In the past 12 months, Mr Kurt Spiteri Cornish has completed 94 reports for the Defendant and 72 for the Claimant. These reports included:
