Mrs Cross has experience in Prison, Community and Secure Psychiatric Mental Health Services and has worked with both males and females across these settings. She has assessed and provided interventions for individuals who have committed a wide range of offences including murder and other violent offences, arson, sexual offences, and acquisitive offences. Catherine is especially skilled in working with individuals who present with complex mental health needs, including psychosis, personality disorders, Autism, learning difficulties, substance abuse and PTSD.

Whilst working for the prison service she trained extensively in Sex Offender Treatment. Catherine held the role of Treatment Manager and was responsible for overseeing the treatment of Medium and High-Risk offenders, as well as the assessment of these offenders pre and post treatment. Catherine has supervised various types of Sex Offender Treatment programmes including the new suite of programmes: Horizon & Kaizen. Her role involved regular attendance at Parole Boards, and she also assessed many Life Sentence Prisoners and Prisoners detained on IPP (Indefinite) sentences and represented her assessments at Parole hearings.

In her current role, as the Lead Forensic Psychologist, Catherine is responsible for the provision of psychological services for a bespoke treatment psychiatric Hospital. Her clients present with a wide range of challenging behaviours including violence/aggression, sexually harmful behaviours, fire setting as well as suicidal and self-harming behaviours. Catherine’s role includes the assessment of their psychological needs and cognitive functioning to determine appropriate treatment pathways.

Experience of giving evidence

Mrs Cross has prepared numerous reports for the Criminal Courts, Mental Health Review Tribunals, Family Courts and parole boards. Catherine has undertaken such work within her employment roles and has been providing expert witness reports, more specifically, for the past two years.

Mrs Cross is able to undertake remote and face to face assessments. She is able to travel across the South Wales, Bristol and Gloucestershire areas. Catherine can submit a report three weeks following the assessment.
